Black Magic Denim

In my trend analysis class, we are given the opportunity to create and develop our own denim line.  This allows us to sketch our design ideas and enabling us to use our creativity to the max!  Before coming to humber, I initially wanted to go into fashion design, as art is something I have always been interested in.

As part of our assignment, we must come up with a theme for our denim line.  It could be an era, or based off of a movie or even a celebrity.  The limitations are… well, there are none!

The concept I have come up with is to create a denim line that is inspired by… Drum roll please…. Witch craft!  As a child, I was always fascinated my witches, and would buy spell books every time I would go to chapters with the family.  Me and my sister would cast spells using things we found in our backyard and garden, such as, twigs, flower pedals, leaves, dirt… literally EVERYTHING!

My nostalgic memory has inspired me to achieve a a cohesive line that incorporated dark rich colours; Ox blood red, rich navy blues, dark emerald green, and most importantly, black!

I don’t want to give too much away just yet, but once I have completed the assignment, I will post my sketches and my inspiration board here and give you a little description of each outfit!  Stay tuned!

The ‘Benefits’ Of Being A Fashion Student

Makeup has been something I have been interested in for as long as I can remember.  Many believe makeup is used to hide or cover imperfections.  I tend to disagree with this statement, as I believe it is merely a way to enhance the features that one already has! When I was about 7 years old, I remember using Vaseline to curl my lashes, as I was not allowed to wear mascara at that age.  Believe it or not, it’s been said that Vaseline can in fact help grow and protect your lashes from any damage they might have!  Who knew I was a 7 year old genius!?  As I’ve gotten older, I have clearly changed my makeup routine from the old Vaseline trick, to using pretty much every cosmetic product you can possibly think of!

After being informed that two guest speakers from Benefit Canada would be attending my social media class for a new product launch presentation, it was inevitable that I was excited beyond belief.  The benefit girls, Ruth and Rema, were not only extremely informative by telling us about the history of Benefit and the companies goals, but they were a hoot to listen to and rather engaging, to say the least!

Below I’ve posted a couple shots from the day, as well as, a snippet of a generous gift from the girls!

The Prologue

Blogs can be about ANYTHING you want them to be! And with that, I’m stuck!  My indecisiveness tends to be my biggest flaw, and will cause this blog entry to be one of the hardest things to write.  Okay, maybe not the hardest, but definitely difficult.  I guess the best way to start this off is by explaining to those of you reading this, who I am and why I’m creating this blog in the first place.

If you don’t already know me, my name is Samantha Billson and I am a 23-year-old Fashion Arts student at Humber College, living in the Toronto area.  Which, for those of you who don’t know, is located in the land of maple syrup (AKA Canada).  I live for fashion, beauty and laughter. The colour pink makes me smile and I love food, social media, coffee, making others laugh and television shows!  I’m usually full of energy and enthusiastic about pretty much everything!  With only weeks away from finishing my program, we as students, have been delegated to develop our own brand identity.  Within this task, we must create multiple social media profiles in order to showcase our skills, interest’s, and essentially, our personality.

With that being said, I plan to continue posting on this blog, along with my other social platforms, about not only me as a student and my transition into the professional world, but me as an individual, my interests, my views and most importantly, my style!
